As Kids see it.....
Some days back I was walking down the road with my young niece in the evening. It was Durga Puja time in kolkata. During this time there is a heavy traffic of people on road because many go pandal hopping.but even on such occasions, when people are in a festive mood there are goons moving around.since most well decorated pandals are overcrowded,some boys or men try their hand at groping female bodies.
Though the road we were walking down was not very crowded I asked my 10 year old neice to tell me immediately if anybody hurt her or did something to her.
It often happens that a girl child is abused but she is unable to speak about it because she does not understand s what was happening with her or simply due to shyness.since she was with me it was my responsibility to take care of her.
Then while we were returning home she told me
‘didi pata hai yeh ladke log na bahut gande hote hain.hamesha Dhaka mar ke jate hain.hamesha humlog kyun side honge.who log thik se kyun nahi chal sakte’(these boys are very mischevious.they always push us and go.why should we always move aside to prevent being touched?why cant they walk properly).
And trust me what she said was correct.most women would know this.you walk in a crowded place and you are liable to be touched at odd places by men who haven’t learnt to behave themselves.and such men escappe being punished because women prefer to accept this abuse quietly.men feel on being charged that they can give the excuse of the place being crowded.but hey!all you such me,women know the difference between an accidental touch and a deliberate dirty touch which reflects their lust.
Almost every woman must have faced a situation like this sometime in her life.imyself have faced such a situation.but girls and women please don’t keep mum about these things.men who do this are criminals and by supporting them we act as far greater criminals.this is because we help them in going on believeing that what they do is okay and noone would ever protest.they gather even more courage the next time they abuse a girl.do not let yourselves become criminals!and to all those men who love groping at public places there are just three words I have to say- GO TO HELL!!!
