The Killyug

I am sometimes amused at how difficult humans find to be human. But then perhaps retention of fundamentals requires very hard work. Else people wouldn’t have been struggling to preserve their culture and so on.

I sometimes wonder how on earth people can be so artificial. Is there no cost involve when one behaves unlike humans in spite of being human.

How can people so casually commit crimes which are so brutal? How can they be capable of inflicting so much of pain. Does it not affect them? Does it not make them feel giddy?

Now days murder seems to have become a favorite crime. Kill whomever you find. Relatives , friends , lovers , enemies , strangers , people who are good , and those one finds bad. Just kill . I can’t stand the sight of blood ;movies containing violence leave me disturbed ; and here there are people whom nothing perturbs. Nor helpless screams , crying eyes or strong character , groaning faces or dying bodies. Nothing. Nothing at all. Being human becomes so impossible for them. They grin when they see people hurt and laugh on seeing them die. Others’ sadness gives them extreme pleasure and they inflict even more pain. Killing is not good enough for them. Their brutality does not allow them to be happy with only this. They need to break bones , chop limbs , split necks , pull out eyes to get orgasmic levels of satisfaction.

I wonder what these people are made of. I wonder what they were meant to be. They seem to be beasts trapped in a human body. They don’t seem human. Or is it that the word ‘human’ or the term ‘being human’ will soon be out of vogue and use.

Do we even stop to wonder whether all this is the way God meant it to be? Or has God gone gravely wrong somewhere in his calculations, in his science, in his psychology. He gave us all a brain and a little , little heart. But why is it that man has started using the brain so much to think evil and has decided to not listen to the endless screams of the heart or conscience.

Where are we going? People talk about us living in the ‘Kalyug’. They say it has just begun and the future will be darker. If we keep moving at this speed we perhaps will become habituated to this darkness. In current times when crimes committed, we protest, we sympathize, we even feel perhaps. But in a day’s time we forget and move on. I wonder what meaning the term ‘move on’ will beyond a few years. It would perhaps imply ‘look, witness, don’t talk , don’t react and move on’ there will be times when people will kill openly on roads and stroll away grinning. On-lookers will do what they are best at. They will look and leave. The dead body will lie there unattended by humans. A car might run it over , a dog might come for its share and eagles’ for theirs. Once they are done with it, the left overs will be cleaned away the next morning by the garbage pickers. There will come a day when we will become so cold and emotionless. Just like these atrocities will not make us sad and angry, there would be no happiness to be felt anymore. We won’t smile and we won’t cry. Perhaps children , who are the apostles of virgin expressions, would have witnessed these atrocities to such an extent that their little minds and hearts would be scarred forever with these events and they would grow into adults who know not why they live or what purpose brings them to life. We are all waiting rather paving the way neatly for that kind of generation to come. Our closed eyes, scared and selfish selves, mum hearts will facilitate the coming of such humans. Perhaps then the other animals, whom we consider base and whose language we understand not, will call each other ‘humans’ to swear and insult.

Yes! We are laying the red carpet for such events to occur. Yes! We are.
